Is your GP closed? Bulk-billed home doctors are available

Unfortunately, the reality of being human means that we fall ill unexpectedly. If you need urgent medical care when your regular GP is closed, it’s reassuring to know that bulk-billed home doctors are available to help throughout Australia.  Home doctor visit services

“Most people who request a home doctor are actually parents or carers seeking urgent medical care for someone they love,” says Dr Tony Tanious from House Call Doctor. “Home doctors are crucial in situations that do not require an Emergency response, but cannot wait until normal clinic hours.”

Home doctors commonly treat patients suffering from acute cold and flu symptoms, fever and gastro, asthma and allergies, headaches and earaches, rashes and infections, or minor traumas, like sprains or lacerations. House call doctors support the most vulnerable members of each community, including children and babies, the elderly, or those living with disabilities and reduced mobility.

A home doctor cannot replace a regular GP. However, these two services can work in tandem. When you are assessed by an after-hours doctor, all notes from the consultation are sent to your regular GP by the next business day.

Home doctors are equipped with common medications for pain relief, relief from cold and flu symptoms, antihistamines, and a range of antibiotics. If your condition requires medication, these will be provided by your after-hours GP free of charge.

“Our medical kits are also equipped with sutures to provide stitches, and other equipment for wound care,” says Dr Tony from House Call Doctor.  “It’s important to note that home doctors are unable to provide ongoing prescriptions, as this requires continued patient follow-up.”

All appointments with an after-hours GP are 100% bulk-billed, if you carry a Medicare or Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA Gold) card. In an Emergency, Australians should always phone Triple 0 (000) and ask for Ambulance, Police, or Fire.
